O3 Drive Driver — Privacy Policy
Last updated: 19 July 2026
This policy explains what the O3 Drive Driver app collects about you as a driver, why we collect it, and who can see it. It applies to the driver application only — passengers are covered by the separate O3 Drive Privacy Policy.
Driving with O3 Drive necessarily means sharing your location and identity with the passengers you carry. This document is specific about exactly how much, and when.
1) Information we collect
| Category | What exactly | Why we collect it |
|---|---|---|
| Account & profile | Name, email address, phone number, account type. Your password is handled by our authentication provider and stored only as a cryptographic hash — nobody at O3 Drive can read it. | To manage your driver account and let your assigned passenger contact you at pickup. |
| Driver photograph | A profile photo you upload from your camera or photo library. | Shown to passengers so they can confirm they are getting into the right vehicle with the right driver. |
| Location while online | Your most recent position and the time it was recorded. Collected only while you are set to online and the app is open in the foreground. | To rank ride requests nearest-first, calculate the "arrives in about N minutes" estimate shown to the passenger, and show your position on their map during an active trip. |
| Availability | Whether you are online or offline, and the time of your last activity signal. | To decide whether to send you ride requests, and to stop sending them when your app has gone unreachable. |
| Vehicle | The vehicle category assigned to you and its plate number. Assigned by O3 Drive staff, not by you. | To confirm to the passenger which vehicle is collecting them, and for safety and accountability. |
| Trip records | Requests you were offered, whether you offered to take them, and whether you were selected. For completed trips: pickup and destination, distance, start and end times, actual duration and the fare charged. The passenger's name and phone for the duration of that trip. | To calculate earnings, resolve disputes, and meet record-keeping obligations. |
| Ratings | Ratings and written reviews passengers leave about you. | To monitor service quality and investigate complaints. |
| Device | Push notification token, whether notifications are enabled, platform (iOS or Android), and when you were last active. | To alert you to new ride requests. Without this, offers can only reach you while the app is open on screen. |
2) How location tracking actually works
This is the most significant data the app collects, so to be precise about it:
- When: only while you are online and the app is in the foreground. Going offline stops collection entirely.
- How often: roughly every 3 minutes, or whenever you move about 100 metres — whichever comes first. It also refreshes when you bring the app back to the foreground.
- What is kept: only your latest position. Each update overwrites the previous one. We do not keep a continuous trail of everywhere you have driven.
- Background: the app does not request background location permission and collects nothing when it is closed or minimised, or when you are offline.
3) What passengers can see about you
While choosing a driver, a passenger sees:
- Your name and profile photograph
- Your vehicle and its plate number
- How many minutes away you are, from your last reported position
Once they select you, they additionally see:
- Your phone number, so they can reach you at pickup
- Your position on the map while the trip is active
Passengers never see your email address, your home address, your earnings, your trips with other passengers, or your location while you are offline.
4) Who we share information with
- Your assigned passenger — as set out in section 3.
- Backend & database hosting — stores your account, availability and trip records on our behalf.
- Private file storage — stores your profile photograph.
- Push delivery (Apple, Google) — to deliver ride alerts to your device.
- Maps & navigation (Google Maps) — to display maps and hand off turn-by-turn directions when you tap a navigation button.
- Authorised O3 Drive staff — for dispatch, vehicle assignment, earnings, support and safety investigations, limited by role.
- Law enforcement, regulators or insurers — where legally required, or where necessary to investigate an incident or protect someone's safety.
We do not sell your personal data and we do not use it for third-party advertising.
5) Vehicle assignment
Your vehicle and plate number are assigned by authorised O3 Drive staff and cannot be changed from the driver app. This is deliberate — it guarantees the vehicle shown to a passenger is the vehicle that actually collects them. If your assigned vehicle is wrong, contact support rather than going online.
6) How we protect your information
- All traffic between the app and our servers is encrypted in transit.
- Database access is governed by row-level security: you can read your own records and the trips assigned to you, not other drivers' records.
- Sensitive fields — including your account type, verification status and vehicle assignment — cannot be written from the app at all. They are controlled by our servers and authorised staff, so they cannot be tampered with from a device.
- Your profile photograph is held in private storage and served only through short-lived signed links, never a public URL.
No system is perfectly secure. Where a breach affects your personal data, we will notify you and the relevant authority as the law requires.
7) How long we keep it
- Account & profile — while your driver account is active.
- Trip & earnings records — retained after you stop driving with us for as long as Nigerian tax, accounting and record-keeping obligations require, and to resolve any outstanding dispute or claim.
- Location — only your latest position is stored and it is overwritten on each update. Pickup and destination points form part of the trip record and are retained with it.
- Ratings & reviews — retained for quality assurance.
8) Your rights
Under the Nigeria Data Protection Act you may request access to the personal data we hold about you, correct inaccurate data, request deletion, object to or restrict certain processing, withdraw consent, and receive a copy of your data in a portable format.
In the app you can update your name, phone number and profile photograph, and go offline at any time to stop location collection. Location and notification permissions can be revoked in your device settings — though we cannot dispatch trips to you without location, and you will miss ride offers without notifications.
For anything else, email privacy@o3drive.com. Some records must be retained even after account deletion where the law requires it.
9) Where your data is processed
Our hosting, storage and notification providers may process and store data on servers outside Nigeria. Where data is transferred abroad we rely on providers offering appropriate contractual safeguards.
10) Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the driver app changes. The date at the top shows when it was last revised. Material changes to how we handle your data will be notified in the app or by email before they take effect.
